Business Need / Purpose of Role: 

 

  • Under the direct supervision of the Machine Shop Supervisor, perform a variety of hand and bench operations to underfile and/or sharpen impeller vanes to specified dimensions, deburr finished pump parts and static or dynamically balance impellers..

 

Objectives & Measurement:

 

  • Perform Underfiler, balance and polish on a variety of ferrous, non-ferrous and special material parts and castings.  Slurry and hand polish impellers and other pump parts to specified finishes.  Work from detailed blueprints, charts, Job Operation Listings, written and verbal instructions.  Work involves the use of pneumatic, pencil, and belt grinders, files, electric disc grinders, scale, abrasive discs, carbide grinding tools, and static and dynamic balancers
  • Provide assistance to Supervisor with time standards on new and/or complicated processes
  • Detect and repot faulty operation, defective material, equipment, and drawing discrepancies and other unusual conditions to proper Supervisor. Remove and replace cutting tools, drills, grinding tools, blades, and sanding belts and discs, as required
  • Deburr all parts before moving to next operation or to Quality Control for final inspection
  • Observe all safety and ISO 9001/14001 Requirements
  • Adhere to all Safety Rules and Regulations for the department and the company
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • Adhere to all Safety Rules and Regulations for the department and the company

  • Maintain a excellent attendance record
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (testing may be required)
  • (Blue Print Reading, , Industrial Math, )
  • Understand and adhere to all Standard Work Procedures, Machine Safety Procedures
  • Document control (Time Cards, Jol's, Heat# , Identification of product, ETC.)
  • Become proficient at Underfile and deburring operations
  • Become proficient in all basic Set-Ups of dynamic and static balance machines

 

Language:

Ability to read and write.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic math.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software: Basic Computer Knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

The work may require considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of heavy objects < 50 pounds.  The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, moving equipment (i.e. forklifts, overhead cranes), rotating equipment or machines.  Routine use of personal protective equipment is required and adherence to all safety precautions.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
