Job Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating production schedules in an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely delivery of products by working closely with subcontractors and internal departments including engineering, procurement, and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities (Including but not limited to)
- Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders and engineering specifications
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of outsourced components
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve scheduling conflicts and optimize workflow
- Balance work center loading, material availability, and capacity planning.
- Align with Purchasing to track material status and material on-time delivery in preparation for production.
- Ensure routing accuracy prior to release to manufacture or subcontract.
- Update and maintain planning parameters and forecasts for products within your assigned value stream.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed
- Release planned manufacturing orders to the shop floor and subcontract manufacturers on time and according to the master schedule.
- Process, monitor, and expedite purchase orders for subcontract manufacturers.
- Walk the shop floor daily to monitor material movement through the production cycle, resolving obstacles and delays.
- Expedite delays with Sales, Engineering, Customer Operations, Production, Quality Assurance, and subcontract manufacturers as required.
- Develop methods to improve planning strategies and tactics to gain efficiencies, reduce lead time, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities and communicate updates to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production planning within a manufacturing environment
Certifications:
- APICS CPIM or similar certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineered-to-order manufacturing
- Proficiency with ERP systems and production planning tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and scheduling software
Physical Requirements
This position is based in a manufacturing shop environment and requires frequent physical activity.
The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Sit for extended periods
- Talk and hear
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods
- Use hands and arms to handle tools, equipment, and materials
- Lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
May be required to work near moving mechanical parts and overhead cranes.
May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, vibrations, and varying temperatures.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots is required.
The role may involve working around chemicals, lubricants, or other industrial materials.
Occasional overtime or shift work may be required depending on production needs.
Salary Range = $85-95K
