Position Summary
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading both the strategic direction and day-to-day execution of outbound logistics operations. This role oversees a high-performing shipping team and leverages systems, data, and technology to ensure accurate, on-time delivery to customers. The ideal candidate is a proactive logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing shipping team with a strong focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Establish and monitor KPIs to drive performance and operational excellence
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee growth and development
Operations & Logistics Management
- Oversee daily shipping activities, ensuring accuracy in documentation, labeling, and regulatory compliance
- Monitor shipping schedules and inventory accuracy through system controls and audits
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors
Systems & Process Optimization
- Utilize ERP, WMS, and other logistics systems to manage and track shipping operations
- Leverage data and analytics to optimize routing, reduce costs, and improve service levels
- Coordinate with carriers and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to ensure reliable delivery performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Planning, Production, Customer Service, and Inventory teams to align shipping with demand and production schedules
- Communicate proactively with internal teams and customers regarding shipment status, delays, or risks
- Ensure a high level of responsiveness to customer and business needs
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001/14001, OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations
- Maintain accurate shipping records, reports, and audit documentation
- Manage labor scheduling, timekeeping, and employee records
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of shipping/logistics experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, strategic mindset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies preferred
- Forklift certification or hands-on experience is a plus
Work Environment
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection, may be required in designated areas.
Compensation & Classification
- FLSA Status: Exempt (Salaried)
- Salary Range: $ 72,000 – $85,000 annually
